Part of the Australian Government’s $2.5 billion Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program, Quilpie Shire Council are upgrading the Quilpie Airport runway to maintain safe and efficient transport networks, as well as to diversify their visitor economy.
The Quilpie Aerodrome Upgrade is a major infrastructure project aimed at reconstructing the sealed runway and upgrading associated facilities with an estimated total project cost exceeding $10 million.
The upgrade is crucial for ensuring the safety and reliability of the airstrip for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) and other essential services. Improvements focused on enhancing runway safety for pilots and passengers, including improved access for aeromedical services.
The project includes rebuilding the aging, structurally deficient runway and extending the apron to the RFDS clinic to facilitate safe patient transfers.
